Elizabeth – Summary of Trip

Michelle and I got up early again to work out before we packed and had breakfast. We then went to the pearl market and I was amazed by the sheer number of pearls they had there. Everywhere you looked there was another vendor selling scarves and beautiful pearl necklaces. After we left the pearl market we went to the airport and to our gate.

This trip was a fantastic experience and I am extremely grateful that I got to be a part of the North Carolina delegation and participate in this. I learned a lot and it was so inspiring to see so many other teenagers passionate about STEM and their projects. I also really liked talking to students from other countries and learning more about their cultures. This trip also made me appreciate some of the things that we have in America even more. A perfect example would be our much cleaner air! It was very cool to see how much Chinese culture celebrates science and to see how well foreign countries respect teachers. I am also very glad that Marti and Caroline were chosen to go on the trip as well. Not only did we all have a lot of fun getting to know them and spending time with them, I loved being around strong women in STEM and education who have been so successful. This was truly and unforgettable experience and I am very glad to have been chosen to go. Thank you Burroughs Wellcome Fund and the SMT Center!
