Introducing 2017 NC International Science Challenge Student Ana Sofia Uzsoy
Ana Sofia Uzsoy is a senior at the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics in Durham, North Carolina, where she is a mathematics teaching assistant and is also on the varsity track team. She has been interested in astronomy since elementary school, and her astrobiology research has earned her the recognition of semifinalist in the Regeneron Science Talent Search and finalist in the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair. Last year, she was on a team that created a product using infrared technology to protect infants from vehicular heat stroke, and was selected as an international finalist in the Conrad Spirit of Innovation Challenge. She loves to play the oboe, and has played with the NC All-State Band and Orchestra as well as the Honor Band and Honor Orchestra of America. Her hobbies include knitting hats for cancer patients, reading, caring for her fish, and hanging out with friends. Ana Sofia plans to pursue a career in astronomy and astrophysics and hopes to one day become a university professor so that she can both teach and continue conducting research.
