Russ: Observe with Abandon
The hum of the plane; the sounds of beats dropping out of nearby headphones – we are 32,000 feet in the air and midway through the first leg of the 2015 NC International Science Challenge’s trip to Beijing.
I am usually on the other side, at my desk, receiving updates, posting them to the blog, and not-so-secretly wishing I could play a role. This year thanks to the SMT Center, I’ll be playing the role of scribe and publishing a scrapbook of the previous 10 trips the NCISC has taken over the past decade.
I’ve always been of the mind that the journey is just as, if not more, important than the destination. We still have quite a journey ahead of us. The students huddled together at RDU, their youthful chatter inspired me to relax my thinking and observe with abandon.
And, the excitement continued to build in this photo during a brief stop in Detroit.
More to come …
