Robin: Departing
The trip to Beijing this year has certainly been warmer than ever before. The US Delegation comprised of six adults and four students were scheduled to rendezvous in Detroit from three North Carolina cities; however, weather or mechanical problems prevented the Raleigh group from arriving as scheduled so that group detoured but met the other in Beijing on Wednesday, March 26th. The event this year was in a rural part of China requiring two hotel stops to accommodate locations of various happenings. This group worked together to put on the best show possible for our Chinese friends hosting the BYSCC.
Breakfast early (6:30 a.m.) and the exhibition and programs running until 8:30 -9:30 p.m. Long days, but lots of spirit. The trip included showcasing and seeing “expert” science from many countries as well as enjoying “a taste of China” with the sightseeing provided by the hosts. We had three interpreters and they were all great and bringing to the table their own individuality. The students blended in well with those from other countries and made new friends. Today’s journey will consist of closure with the other countries at breakfast and then off to the pearl market where the group plans to make last minute purchases before departing to the airport. Great group, good experience for all! Thanks to the North Carolina Science, Mathematics, and Technology Education Center and Burroughs Wellcome Fund for the interest, support, and STEM innovation! See you back in North Carolina.
